Sydney! Pups! Other things!

Life update:

• Went to Canberra for the Canberra Zine Emporium!
• Went to Sydney with Ashley for the Other Worlds Zine Fair! Had so much fun at this one... usually at the end of a zine fair I'm feeling too exhausted to hang out with all the other zine people afterwards, but I'm glad I did this time, met so many great people.
• Working hard!!!
• I don't think I've even mentioned it on this blog yet, but this year I purchased a risograph machine... I've been having so much fun making prints and zines on it. Taken a while to figure out how to run it/fix it (they are rather temperamental machines!) but now I've got the hang of it :)
• Another thing not sure if I mentioned... I'm curently living in this great studio/unrenovated factory place and it's pretty much my dream home. We only have the space until August when it's going to be turned into 5 houses or something, but it's really fantastic to have a huge studio space for once, so much room to spread out and make art. We even got a table tennis table!

Pom Poms!

As part of "White Night"  in Melbourne this Saturday, I'll be working with Etsy Australia and CAE making pom poms that will eventually come together as a big pom pom artwork! The pom pom station will be set up on the corner of Degraves and Flinders Lane, I'll be there from 7pm-11pm, (and Kirsty Webster will be there from 11pm-3am). Come by, make some pom poms and say hi! :)

October/November/December/January

After having such a great time in Melbourne for the Lamington Drive residency, I decided that instead of moving to a possibly dark and cold England place, it would be the right decision to move back here (at least for the summer!).

So far I've been living in a house with some friends, making a bunch of art, working on new plans, generally having a great time enjoying all the different art and food things here. Tim finished the long distance hikes he was on, and is also back here (with a new appreciation for the hot summer, he used to hate it but maybe hiking in the heat in the States and Spain left him nostalgic for it?).

Just finally finished watching all of Star Trek Next Generation... sad to finish it but at least there are a lot more other Star Treks to watch!

A book I made while I was doing the Lamington Drive residency in Melbourne. I got this stamper thing that you can put whatever letters you want in it to make words and so I used that to stamp all the words in the pages of the book (no photocopy!). Mostly it's about things that have happened while I have been camping.

I had such a great time in Melbourne that I changed all my plans and decided to move back there. Time will tell if that was a good idea. Might still head over to Berlin for their summer though.

Have been listening to lots of new music... I sort of stopped listening to/looking for music that I liked while I was in NZ, so it is a good feeling to be getting back into it. It's nice to make more decisions about stuff like that.

Resident

Hi! So, I am working this month as one of four resident artist/illustrators at Lamington Drive in Melbourne. So far I have made/drawn a bunch of things (it's only been a week!), and I'm getting stuck into creating some new work to launch at our end-of-residency party. It's great having such a big studio to work from (and to be sharing the space with other interesting/excellent artists), can't wait until we really start filling up the space with our art.

Workshop

On the 13th of July I'll be holding a "Drawing a Story" workshop in Hobart as part of the Small Press Zine Festival. The workshop is going to be from 12-3pm upstairs at 'Frankies Empire'. Secret Things...

Hi! I don’t usually like to have many sales of my work at all, but I am trying really hard to save up money to move to the UK (plan is to travel around Australia a little, then got there probably fly away around the end of October)

So... I have made a sale section (only for a small amount of time) in my shop (HERE), with heaps of art and other things, some are more than 50% off the usual price.

Zines and Sydney and Such

Ok, so I'm just at Sydney Airport now, hanging out for a while watching the planes and baggage trucks and things before heading into the city (I really love airports... usually I arrive in the mornings even when my flight is in late afternoon).

I'm here for the MCA zine fair, which is part of the Sydney Writers Festival, which also has some excellent events on (reminder to self, pick up some sort of pamphlet with events info). Also, I am here to go to seven Kraftwerk concerts. Because I can.

My friend Holly Leonardson came to visit in Hobart last weekend and we worked on a whole bunch of drawings for a new zine that I have just finished putting together in time for the zine fair this weekend. So, here it is:

We also did a lot more other activities like making quilts and cooking and museum time, it was so great to finally meet Holly in person, as we have been penpals for a while without ever meeting since I was living in New Zealand.
