Garfunkling

"Found from the various small hollow recesses of the internet, shivering, and wet." Music inspired by Art Garfunkel's fictitious conjoined twin brother's fictitious band. Compiled into regularly occurring downloadable mixtapes by Tim Anderson.

Find

So a couple of months ago I sent an order of brooches to a soon-to-be-opened shop in Zurich. Well, I kind of forgot that I had done this, not forgot really, but not thinking about it. Anyway, yesterday I was browsing Pascal Grob's blog, and came across a post he had written about a newly opened shop in Zurich called Townhouse. I was pleasantly surprised to see my brooches in one of his photos, and it even took me a few moments to recall how they had gotten there. Then I remembered though and it made me happy.
My babies... (hey Leo look they have the same glue as you)

Toronto. Show.

Hey I have a few drawings in this show tomorrow if you would like to come, should be fun. (Too bad I'm on the other side of the world in a small room!!!)

Something good about being in a small triangle shaped island? Tape Man tomorrow night. I mean, Ghost of Tape Man.

Fun

Gemma started an excellent flickr group/blog called "What I Wore Today". Drawing what one wore, today. The group was started maybe 11 days ago and already there are so many drawings! Its great. I did one drawing for it a few days ago (below). The only problem for me is that I only change my clothes every 3 days or so, so what I wore to day is pretty much what I wore in the picture even though it was Wednesday (too much information?).

p.s what I look like in my drawing vs photograph below... is the pickle behind my back?

This is real life.

Trades...

Slowly working through a whole lotta trades. The good thing about trades is that once you send the items, you get things in return! Two lovely packages that I have gotten recently have been:

This deer brooch from Naomiaka The Time is NowIf you care to look behind the deer you will see that he came with a carefully hand-cut paper backing. I am wondering if it would be possible to wear them both together.

Second package...  seductive staring faces from Caitlin Shearer. Me like. Need to learn more adjectives.

It's party time at my desk now dancing with myself listening to Blank Dogs drawing, writing, wasting time, eating cough drops and enjoying the idea that I would have freedom from everything if I wanted it.

Yay! More reading material.

Came back from Melbourne with a whole lot of little bookies and zines to keep me entertained for at least a few days. On my return to the McNeil household, I received this excellent comic book in the mail from (one of my most favourite artists that I have come upon recently) Hellen Jo...
Seriously. I love her work. She has work in a show at Grasshut at the moment and I am considering buying one of them if I can rearrange my funds enough. Probably the one below but there are a few others (actually there are only 2 other paintings by her at the show that haven't been sold yet) that I like too. Tough decision. Even tougher funding dilemma.
Sigh.

Drawing Party

So I have been in Melbourne for the past two weeks, meeting up with old friends, making new friends, and generally having quite a wonderful/tiring time.

My first week was spent preparing for an immanent art show with Sean (at a gallery in L.A! Details to come in the next few weeks!). He flew over from Perth and we worked as hard as we could on the collaborative parts. Still heaps of work to do on that, but things are getting done slowly (below is one of the drawings that we worked on together)

During my stay I also met with one of the sweetest sweethearts of them all, Dawn Tan. We met up at Journal and enjoyed an afternoon of painting, chatting, and tea sipping. Below is one of the drawings we did together. I especially like the little trees.
My final artistic collaboration was with my excellent man friend Leo Greenfield. I stayed at his place for the second week of my trip, following him around like a little dog as he went to school. Apparently one of Leo's teachers asked another guy in his class why Leo had a small boy following him around for the week. And I thought I had become a woman. Oh well. Lots of great ideas, and had so much fun during fashion week as well. So fake and wonderful. (Leo got his picture on "Melbourne Street Fashion", cute cute cute!)

More soon,
from Sarah
