Eats

Get some nutrients and fibre. Use up the oats in your cupboard. Have some tasty snacks.

Linseed and Oat Crackers.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 Cups of oats
1/2 Cup of linseeds (flaxseeds)
Salt/Pepper/Spices

What to do:
Pre-heat your oven to 150ยบ Celsius.

Put your oats, linseeds and some salt into a blender, plus if you want to add some spices (like cardamom or whatever) then add them too. Blend until everything is like a really coarse flour.

Pour your blended oats/seeds mixture into a big bowl, then combine with enough water to make a fairly hard dough. Save a little of the dry mixture for later on...

Roll out the dough between 2 sheets of plastic wrap (so that it doesn't stick to your rolling pin) until the dough is about 1mm thin. Cut with a cookie cutter into whatever size or shape you want, dust the the side that is going to be on the baking tray with some of the dry mixture that was saved so that your cracker doesn't stick to the tray, sprinkle a little sea salt over top of the raw crackers, then put them in the oven for about 15 minutes, or until they are crispy.

Done.

I had mine with yoghurt mixed with garlic and chives and lemon juice. I recommend you eat these in moderation because of, ah, the, eh, high fibre content or whatever.

Here

Tim and I stayed up all night and in the morning before it got light we walked around old Montreal taking photos and eating candy. I came home and did some drawing, had a sleep, drew some more. I hope that I'm working hard enough, and that I am working towards something rather than simply working.

I want to make conceptual art. I want to create great empty spaces in tiny places.

There are many stray cats in the area where I live.

Cute

Hi! I'm going to be back in Toronto from the 4th-12th of June. On the 6th and 7th I will be at the above craft show (I should have coloured in the flyer before posting this, there may be an edit in order for colouring). With me will be some new items that I have been working on, plus prints and brooches and so on.

AND later on in the week, (on the 11th) I will be having a show of art at a lovely boutique shop on Queen W (more details to come in the next few days) (please keep that evening free).

Sunny today! Art supplies shopping soon! Yessssss.

oh, and...

I got to be the "guest intern picker" for Toronto Craft Alert this month. This meant that I got to pick five craft/art/niceness related internet things. Below is one of them, Coral Silverman's amazing floral paintings. To see my other picks, plus other excellent picks by some other lovely ladies,  click here.

Super Excellent Fun Things in Montreal

Yesterday was such a super nice fun day. So what if I didn't get that much work done...
First, basement art show/music at a house in St Henri (two different kinds of homebrew beers, $1 each, plus what they call "Swampwater" for 50¢ from the changeover between the two kegs because they only had only one tap) didn't stay there for too long though, sometimes I can't deal with some people's interpretations of noise music. Speaking of homebrew, but a little off-topic to my blog post, if you are in Brooklyn next month you should check this out.

Anyway, took a train to the Plateaux to visit a highly recommended bar/cafe called Le Cagibi. Suitably impressed. They have a strange licensing rule there where you must buy a meal to drink beer there, so that was good because I was hungry, although I don't recommend the nachos unless you are extremely fond of cheese.

On the way home, came across an art exhibition opening at Galerie Push. So good. The artists who were exhibiting were Suzanne Dery and Justin Stephens (I couldn't find an image of my favourite piece at the show, but if you go and have a look, let it be known that my favourite one is Suzanne's green/boot/stars painting) Recently I haven't really been that impressed with the quality of work at a lot of art exhibitions (sometimes I think I am a little overly critical maybe) but the work at this show was really good quality and gave me that feeling that good/powerful art (subjectively I guess though) sometimes brings that everything is important.

When I was almost home there were people giving out handfuls of free chocolates as a promotion. Perfect. The End.

Another little something that I am enthralled with...

...is this super awesome hand drawn mega owl brooch from Birds of prey.
This particular one is pinned to my cardigan right now so you can't have it (I also have a bird brooch that is similar as well but it is a finch of sorts and not an owl) but you can get one for yourself from the Birds of Prey etsy shop, or from the Glaciers of Nice shop. Glaciers of nice also has some other super nice things like cd's, shirts, posters, zines and other miscellany.

Drawing so hard in preparation for upcoming shows. No scanner at the moment either but hopefuly soon I'll take some photo's of my new things for you to see.

Tiny Joe and Junior in the Park

I was just about to do a blog post of all the things that I like which are my favourite colour (I believe it is called "Seafoam" or something similar) but then I remembered this screenprint by Steven Weissman, and decided just to write about this instead. Titled "Tiny Joe and Junior in the Park" it's from an edition of 90, includes my most favourite of all greens, and it only costs ONLY $10!!! Oh my.

Real Quick...

Haven't been in Montreal long enough to tell of any impressions of the city yet, but just wanted to mention that there is a giveaway over at Design for Mankind's blog of my husky print and some lovebird brooches. Leave a comment at the giveaway blog post to be in the draw to win , and the winner will be announced on the 6th of May. I mean mai.

Bye bye!
